English Requirements

English requirements

All students whose first language is not English will need to demonstrate that they have a level of English that is appropriate for the courses they intend to study at SA¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½. Students will be assessed at the interview/application stage to determine if they will be required to take English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classes alongside their A level or GCSE courses.

Our normal entrance requirement is an IELTS (or equivalent) score of 5.5 – 6.5, depending on the course you wish to follow. Our minimum IELTS (or equivalent) levels for entrance are:

  • Pre-A level courses: 4.5
  • GCSE courses/2 year A level programmes: 5.5
  • 18-month/1 year A level courses: 5.5/6.0
  • 1 year Art pre-Foundation course: 5.5
  • 1 year University of the Arts London Foundation Diploma in Art and Design: 5.0
  • 1 year NCUK International Foundation Year: 5.5
  • 1 year SA¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ University Foundation Programme: 5.0/5.5

We accept TOEFL, Peason PTE and Cambridge qualifications as well as IGCSE at C or above. Students who do not have a recognised English language qualification will sit our own test. In certain circumstances, we may then ask you to sit an approved English language test in addition to our own test before an offer of a place can be made.

Our equivalent level for approved tests are:

IELTS TOEFL (iBT) Pearson PTE Cambridge
5.5-6.5 46-93 42-64 162-176

We may also require you to take additional EFL lessons at SA¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ alongside your A level programme until you reach our required levels.

For students who are applying for a General visa (those who will be over-18 at the start of their courses), an approved English test is a UKVI visa requirement.
