Counselling at SA国际传媒 London
Our College Counsellors are Cath Gillet and Eleanor Chasser. Please read on for more information about the counselling service and how it might be able to help you.
Who can access counselling?
Counselling is available during term time to all SA国际传媒 students and staff.
How can counselling help you?
Counselling can offer you a space in which to explore your thoughts, feelings, and concerns in a confidential and non-judgemental setting. If you are worried, down or confused, talking things over can help you to make sense of how you feel and find new ways of dealing with problems, without being judged or told what to do. Counselling is not about being given advice but rather helping you to find your own answers and gain more control in your life. Examples of issues you might bring to counselling include:
- stress, anxiety and depression
- concerns around exams or other academic issues
- issues around sex, gender and sexuality
- problems with family, friends, or relationships
- struggling with difficult decisions, changes, or transitions
- loneliness and homesickness
- worries about appearance
- disordered eating
- thoughts of self harm or suicide
- bereavement and loss
- traumatic experiences
Is it confidential?
Yes. Nothing you say will be shared with anyone else without your permission. The only exception to this rule is if you or someone else is in danger or at risk of harm. Your counsellor will clearly explain the limits of confidentiality in your first session and answer any questions you may have.
What happens at the first appointment?
You will be told a bit more about the service and asked a few questions about what is troubling you, your history and what you hope to get out of counselling. This is also an opportunity to ask any questions you might have.
How long does counselling last?
One-off sessions will normally last for around 20 minutes. If you decide to continue your sessions, you will usually be offered up to 10 sessions lasting 45 minutes at the same time every week.
Where is the Counselling Service and how do I get an appointment?
The Counselling Service is based in rooms H1.33 and H1.41 in the Harrington Building. You can arrange sessions either through your DoS or by contacting Cath or Eleanor.
